I appreciate everybody here. The social media is a veritable instrument for the expression of our thoughts and concerns on social, cultural and political issues. Because the world watches and reads us we can't afford to be indecorous. We should be moderate and conscientious in our debates and even in the dictions of our expressions.
This is necessary because we are not enemies but we are of one family. It is foolish of anybody to expect that we should all reason along the same line or not to be qualified to express different opinions. So I am enthused by the methods of graduating our debates on the capacity of Hon GBOLUGA IKENGBOJU to represent us again and again.
This man is a blessing from God to our Federal Constituency. He is a legislator who has no power to initiate and execute projects unlike the executive. Legislative duties include making the needs and aspirations of the people known at the legislative chamber so that the executive arm of government will become aware of what is or are happening for immediate response and corresponding action or actions.
The legislator has no executive functions. Executive functions include decisions to initiate projects to be executed, where the projects will be executed and the award of such projects. The legislator is only the eye and the ear of his people who will see what is going on and come to tell his constituents what he has seen so that the constituents can see too.
The legislator hears what are being said and come back to his people to tell them what he hears and in turn, return to the chamber or other appropriate public platform to tell what his people have told him to tell the public. The functions of the legislator is so distinct from those of the executive that we can't be expecting the legislator to be the initiator and executor of projects. He, the legislator, only makes the laws that the executives implement.
If a legislator is able to lobby to influence projects to his constituency and ensure that the projects are executed for the benefits of his people, such legislator deserves commendation and applause and appreciation. The only way to appreciate a performing legislator is to encourage him by granting him the opportunity for another turn.
One good turn, people say, deserves another! If we refuse to appreciate a performing legislator or any political office holder, we may end it up by discouraging good performance in our political culture. If you compensate a performing legislator with another term, those who want to occupy political offices would have seen the template of compensating good performance and hence could be encouraged to emulate good performance habit in their own time.
This is how to encourage good performances in our political culture. But if we refuse to appreciate and compensate good performances, those coming behind will not have encouraging and motivating templates and hence would want to act indiscriminately without cautions. Investigations have revealed that this is the first and second term projects are directly influenced to the federal constituency by any federal legislator. I was in a group of elderly people who confessed that, in all their days, in their political struggles, they have not witnessed a direct impact of the activities of a legislator on the people.
If this is so, what makes for this unique difference? It is because we are lucky to have a vibrant kindhearted man representing us. By the time we start to outline and highlight his achievements that he's reluctant to make noise about, our people will become aware of the reasons why, in our patriotism, we are agitating for his return to the Assembly. I challenge anyone that has a record of better performance than what we currently enjoy to come forward to prove it to the whole world. But unfortunately, the current legislator is elected on the platform of the PDP which is an opposition party to the ferocious APC.
Yet a legislator operating on the platform of opposition party has excelled beyond expectations. He deserves our commendation and compensation! Our selfish politicians should be blocked from preventing this peculiar opportunity for the good representation of our Constituency.
For now we should be unanimous in our determination to return Hon GBOLUGA IKENGBOJU for there are serial benefits in him that we should harness for the good of the constituents of Okitipupa/Irele federal consistuency.
