There is a popular saying in Ilutitun that if you have never played at L.A field, you are not yet a certified or fulfilled footballer.
L.A field has produced great footballers like Gbekuru,Demola,Sparara,Risky,Suberu,Daf,Taribo, Legover ,Temidayo among others.
Unarguably, L.A field is the most famous playground in Osooro having hosted more than 6,000 matches in the last six decades and still counting.
Most players who had played at L.A field felt they have been fulfilled having been watched and applauded by more than one thousand spectators and passers-by alikes
Presently, the playground is at its dilapidated state, some portions of the field have been wiped off, the pitch is always being flooded during raining season while goalkeepers most times are at the mercy of the rickety goalposts.
As a result of not well fenced and lack of security at the playground, hoodlums and miscreants often invade the pitch when results do not favour them.
In 2010, when Sarajoe fc was to compete at the state league, three playgrounds were suggested to the state inspectorate team, one in Iju-Odo and two in Okitipupa, but none in Ilutitun despite the fact that Sarajoe fc was then domiciled in Ilutitun thus, MMGS's field was eventually picked and used.
For long, I have been persistent in my agitations for the renovation of L.A field which is presently in an appalling situation that needs a desperate action and along in line with the establishment of our own mini Stadium in due course.
The onus is now on our Politicians, Philanthropists, Clergmen, Sports Enthusiasts and well-wishers of the town to revamp and rehabilitate our makeshift stadium.
Our upcoming Footballers like Adeyemi Sunday, Idiokpe Kenneth,Omotayo Sina,Ojelade Samson,Fayemi Elijah,Ajibade kemi and others must have access to a befitting playground to be nurtured and groomed.
The time is now or never.
Sedara Oluwadara
Secretary Okitipupa local Government Football Council.
